How do you build credit? No one ever worries about credit history until they need something. The problem with waiting until you need something is that by then you have wasted valuable time in building up your credit. But what does it mean to build your credit?
Building credit means that you are going to have to start using credit in order to build your credit today. Your credit history either shows no activity or you don't have a history. So basically you're starting from the bare minimum and building it up.
At some point you are going to need credit, that's life. The good news? Starting out a credit score is not very difficult. It is however much more difficult to build credit if you are starting from a bankruptcy.
Getting approved for your first credit card is normally a simple task. When you first apply they often post a limit of $500 on your card. This is not a bad thing. Never spend more than you can pay off in a month on a credit card.
Today lenders make it easy for your first time. If however you've already been turned down, it may be a little more difficult. The easiest cards to get approved for are normally store credit cards. For instance I started out with a charge card at Express for men. They gave me a limit of $750 and I still have it to this day. Best buy cards are also a good one, especially for the electronics fans like myself.
You can almost always take the credit offers out there that come in the mail. The downside is they usually offer around a $300 dollar limit. To build your credit today you just need to be smart about how much debt you go into. You do not want to have too much credit available or it will actually hurt you and make it difficult to build any credit.
Be aware if you choose a pre-approved card to build up credit that they can sometimes be too good to be true and if that's the case cut the card up. Never borrow more than you are able to pay back. Follow these simple rules and you will be well on your way to build your credit today.
